Interview with Monick Ortega
What motivates you to wake up and go to work?
If I had to sum it up, I would say building a legacy. It’s the accountability that comes along with a word like that. I have the honor and privilege of supporting and encouraging an incredible legacy for my team and the companies that we come alongside. It’s like I tell my team, what we do here is supporting business operations so the goals and dreams of business owners and professionals can be fulfilled. We are able to support the small business owner that may have taken their last dollar to make their dream a reality or help an IT team free up resources to focus on growth projects. By supporting these businesses, we support not just their owners but also the employees that they employ and in return their families. That’s enough for me to hit the ground running, and espresso. Lots and lots of espresso!
What’s the one topic you never get tired of learning about?
I’ve always been interested in Psychology. Understanding how people think and human behavior as a whole is an interesting topic, and one that is relevant in every aspect of life from personal relationships to building a great business team.
What led you into your current role?
A management spot opened at TPx, which to me meant an opportunity to pour everything I had into being a leader and mentor to others. I couldn’t refuse that.
What brings you the greatest satisfaction in the work you do?
Supporting my team so that they can support our clients is absolutely without question the most satisfying part of my job. I have the most amazing people on my team.
What has made the biggest impact on your professional life and what has helped you grow professionally?
The love, support, encouragement, counsel, mentorship, and accountability that comes from those closest to me has had the greatest impact on me personally and professionally.
I’m also an avid reader so I learn a lot from the sage advice and perspectives from thought leaders and authors.
What career advice would you give your younger self?
The word “success” is subjective. Define if for yourself and make that your north star, because others will try to define it for you!
Outside of work, what are your hobbies and favorite things to do?
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, reading and writing, sipping a good cup of coffee, and spending quality time with loved ones.
What are you most passionate about outside of work?
I am passionate about advocating for abused and neglected children and teaching adults how to prevent exploitation of their loved ones. I have spent the past 19 years following and researching human trafficking and work hard to be an advocate and bring awareness to this topic.
What is one thing people may not know about you?
I was voted “most talkative” in 7th and 8th grade. I am a state-certified human trafficking advocate, a court appointed special advocate (CASA) for abused and neglected children in the foster care community specifically CSEC, am trauma informed, and I am the local A21 walk for freedom host in my community.
What do you like about working at TPx?
Without question it’s the people! Without us, TPx is just a logo. Our people are the ones that give TPx an identity. And we have great people!
